Neotrope History
Neotrope® was founded in 1983 in Redondo Beach, California, as S.U. Graphics, and legally became Mindset in 1987. As of July 1, 2001, the company is now known as Neotrope™. The company was founded by award-winning multimedia artist, author, photographer, and marketing guru Christopher Simmons to provide an affordable alternative to traditional high-priced advertising/design companies on the West Coast.
The company originally offered in-house 2-color offset printing, graphic design, commercial photography, plain-paper typesetting, copy-writing/editing, advertising and marketing services. Today, many of those services are still offered, along with services which embrace the new communication avenues such as CD-ROM/DVD, digital audio and video, and the Internet.
Starting in 1995 Neotrope embraced the World Wide Web, forseeing it as the next major content delivery environment and advertising/marketing medium. Neotrope principal Christopher Simmons participated in the design and architecture of one of the first online computer stores launched in Fall of 1995, before e-commerce became a mainstream buzzword. In 1996, Neotrope began offering Web hosting services as an adjunct to Neotrope's Web design and development services. Mr. Simmons has personally been involved in the development of over 250 Web sites since March of 1995.
Neotrope has benefited from over six years of growth experience in the World Wide Web and is better positioned than many newcomers who seek to offer the same kind of service packages. Experience has given Neotrope a decided advantage in providing the type of services most desired by small to medium companies seeking an online business presence. And, we're still very much involved in traditional print design such as brand identity, logos, packaging, newsletters, publications, and catalogs.

Creative "Mindset"
Neotrope president/owner Christopher Simmons is a much in-demand author of magazine articles on the subject of cross-media content development, Web-imaging, Web-marketing, e-commerce, and intellectual property issues. He has written feature articles for Digital Imaging magazine, and Micro Publishing News on these subjects, as well as articles for Spazz, Polyphony, Computer Player, and others. His Web business articles have been reprinted in the Graphic Artists Guild newspaper. He has been interviewed by Jackstreet Live Web Radio on the topic of Internet marketing and Website promotion. He has been interviewed by PC World magazine on the subject of Linux Web hosting technologies.
His digital abstract artwork has been selected for the cover of the Science and Technology catalog for Long Beach State University (CSULB) as well as featured in the experimental Bytes of Art Project in San Francisco, sponsored by Digital Equipment Corp. He has designed over two dozen national magazine covers since 1997. He has composed theme music for two TV productions of the Long Beach Museum of Art, and his original electronica music has been played on national radio stations and reviewed in music publications around the world.
Mr. Simmons is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the Graphic Artist Guild (G.A.G.), and ASCAP; and is a former member of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA). Neotrope is a member of the Uniform Code Council (UCC) which administers bar codes, is listed with Bowker's which administers ISBN numbers, and is registered with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for ISRC codes.
He has served as Director of Advertising and Marketing for the MacMall catalog company where he was responsible for designing and managing the first two years of the magazine ads and catalogs for the mail-order company, for which he won several Harvey Communication Measurement awards, and one Apple ARPL design marketing award. Neotrope is a legitimate business entity, listed with Dun&Bradstreet, and authorized by the State of California
to collect state sales tax. Neotrope has banked at the same branch of Union Bank of California since 1983, and
maintained a permanent post office box mailing address in Redondo Beach, CA since 1983. Neotrope has a city business license with Torrance, California. Neotrope has its own merchant
credit card accounts and processes its own payments for customer-ordered services.
